Founded in the summer of the 2006 following the 1st Trinity International Hip Hop Festival, The Trinity Chapter of Temple of Hip Hop is a student-led organization that has organized the festival since 2007 in partnership withe local and national partners.
Trinity Chapter of Temple of Hip Hop Travels to Japan, June 2024
Prof. Seth Markle and Aleema Kelly ’26, the faculty advisor and lead student organizer of the Trinity Chapter of Temple of Hip Hop, were selected to represent Trinity College at the 2024 Technos International Week. Held in Tokyo, Japan, Technos International Week is an event organized by Technos International College of Japan. Its goal is to promote international exchange and understanding between the international guests and the members of the host institution, as well as to offer the guest group the opportunity to experience and appreciate Japanese life and culture. Trinity College is one of 10 colleges and universities from around the world to participate. Prof. Markle and Aleema will be promoting Japanese Hip Hop Culture throughout the academic year. Aleema Kelly ’26 Explores Hip Hop with WRTC Show Afrika @ Work
Aleema Kelly ’26 hosts a late night radio show called Afrika @ Work. This show can be found on WRTC 89.3 FM, Trinity’s independent radio show right here in Hartford, Connecticut. When hosting this show, Kelly aims to showcase all different forms of hip hop music as well as deep conversations regarding the hot topics that people are discussing about this form of music and the broader music industry. The show is hosted by the Temple of Hip Hop, a Trinity organization that aims to bring together hip hop artists, community members and educators around the world for Trinity College’s annual festival. Voices of Student Organizers
Interviews with former student organizers of the Trinity Chapter of Temple of Hip Hop. Most of these interviews were recorded on ‘Afrika@Work” hosted by the Trinity Chapter of Temple of Hip Hop (WRTC 89.3 – Hartford). In these interviews, student organizers reflect on their experiences as marginalized students and the role of cultural responsibility in the context of hip hop.
The What is Hip Hop Project
In 2013, the Trinity Chapter of Temple of Hip Hop asked people from around the world the simple the question: What is Hip Hop? Interviews were recorded and shared on YouTube before the 8th Trinity International Hip Hop Festival.
